Before the introduction of laptops and tablet computers as relatively inexpensive household items, boardgames were the primary sources of entertainment for many families around the world. Today, the boardgame has been replaced by laptops and handheld computers.
One of the main attractive qualities of boardgames is the fact that they are generally quite inexpensive and can entertain the entire family at once – everyone can join in the game simultaneously. This is why boardgames have been the first choice in family entertainment even when games consoles emerged with thousands of different games to be played. Even with games consoles it would not be possible to play a game that the whole family could join simultaneously unless you had the appropriate peripherals.
